William
Dunne
A
sad loss to us all was the passing away of William Dunne, better
known as 'Bilko'. Many of our special events and get togethers
would not have been the same without him blasting away on the
pipes. Bilko was also an accomplished bugler and for many years
sounded the calls in Columb Bks. In his younger days he served
a number of times un Cyprus. Back home his occupation was signals
and for many years he kept the Bks switch board buzzing. We all
miss him dearly. Pipe on, Bilko.

John
Flynn
John,
affectionaly known as 'Porky' was a member of our Post for a number
of years but due to ill health was unable to attend our meetings.
John served in The Congo and Cyprus and was taken prisoner with
'A' Coy. 35th Ing BN and was awarded a tankard and certificate
by his comrades to mark the 40th anniversary of the event, he
was very proud of this award. He served for many years as a cook
and nobody on duty or in the bks ever went hungrey when he was
on duty. After his retirement he served in the Cusack Park where
he took great care to have the pitch in tip top shape for all
games. Rest well Porky. |

Jim
Sinnott
Jim
unfortunately was the first member of our post to pass away. Having
served for well over 25 years in Columb Bks and reaching the rank
of Regimental Sergeant Majar it was late in Jim's career when
he decided to take a trip to Cyprus. Jim's love of sport was well
known and being a Wexford man, hurling came first. On his retirement
Jim returned to Wexford with his wife and many a day when passing
we would call in for the cup of tea, slice of cake and the punnet
of strawberries for the journet home. There was great sadness
when we travelled to Wexford to lay Jim to rest in the shadow
of Vinegar Hill. Rest in Peace.
